dumbing it down

If you had some decently recorded tracks and you wanted it to sound like it was recorded in a basement, how would you go about that? EQ stuff so that more lows and low mids were present? What else?

Reverb with loud ER and low diffusion?

Depends if it's an unfinished basement or not, too. I'd get the appropriate IR and apply as necessary. Wash hands and repeat.

What if it was done in the 70's?

Reamp in a basement? I presume these tracks are mixed. Hopefully without too much reverb because it would be cool to use a room mic for the ambience.

Basement Tapes, late 60's. When Dylan came around, they recorded everything in the basement, and it sounds like it. But some of the stuff on the album, stuff done by just The Band was done in the studio, and those mixes sound different despite the fact that they tried to make them fit with the stuff that they'd done with Dylan in the basement. I was wondering how you'd do that - how you'd take well-recorded raw tracks and mix them in a way that made them sound like they hadn't been done in a studio.
